And who said paying was a problem?
Today, Microsoft announced that over 10 million of their 25 million Xbox Live players are Xbox Live Gold members. This means that, from Xbox Live alone, when players are paying $60 for a year subscription, Microsoft are earning around $600 million to $800 million. If you were to include the DLC prices too, then Microsoft are possibly earning over $1 billion a year.
Xbox Live Gold allows a player access tonnes of features that those who use Xbox Free cannot use, such as ESPN*, Facebook, Twitter, Zune and Last.FM^. The feature also allows multiplayer gaming and many other features.
So if over 10 million players worldwide are willing to pay for online, why can’t everybody else?
* US only.
^ Europe only.
