Spreading quicker than a wild fire is the rumor that THQ are preparing their game development business for sale by cancelling all releases in 2014.
Kevin Dent, a veteran of the industry, tweeted late last night that THQ had canceled work on Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium, the MMO title licensed from The Games Workshop, stating afterwards they had canceled all other projects for release in 2014 and were returning the I.P to it’s respectful owners.
Dent believes the purpose of this is to prepare the company for sale, as a need to “preserve cash”. It will be interesting to hear THQ’s side on this, especially since last year included a major flop (Red Faction) and a reasonable success (Saints Row The Third).
So if THQ were to be sold, who do you think would buy them? I’d be interested to hear your comments below, but lets just pray EA are a bit strapped for cash when the auction rolls round.
