It’s been a tough year for the games industry and Nintendo have fared no better, posting a staggering loss of ¥37,320m loss for the year ending on 31st March 2012. Whilst this was lower than the ¥65,000m predicted, it’s still a large blow for the company.
This is Nintendo’s first non-profit year, with blame resting on sluggish results for the Wii totaling only 9.84 million console sales (even after the Wii price drop) and a complete saturation of the DS market (with 5.1 million consoles sold out of 151 million DS consoles total).
Nintendo are forecasting an operating profit of ¥35 billion with sales of ¥820 billion for the next year with strong support from the 3DS and a good start for their latest console the Wii U.
Rising from the ashes, eh Nintendo?
