LucasArts’ Closed As Disney Shift Development Model

After 3 decades in the industry, Disney have closed the doors on publisher/developer LucasArts. The fate of the studio’s employees and titles in development currently lies in limbo, including the hotly anticipated Star Wars 1313. “After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.” Perhaps it’s a bit of a kick in the teeth, to avoid acknowledging the hard work of those devoted to developing games within the studio. We send our best wishes to the staff of LucasArts’ and humbly thank you for delivering some of gaming’s most iconic I.P’s.
