For game retailers, pre-owned sales can be a major driving force. This has led to intense competition on the high street, where most offer a “beat any trade in offer.” UK retailer HMV is aiming another service at it’s gaming market.
HMV recently launched their replay app, which scans the barcode of products, providing a price for a games trade in value. Now the retailer notes that anyone bringing in games with the app downloaded onto their smartphone will receive an extra £2 on top of the value of the traded in title. This makes it one a most lucrative time for gamers trading in unwanted products, with a bonus incentive whilst trade in values for recent releases remain high.
The app is available on Android and iOS free of charge, and to gain an extra £2, one must present the app at the till (at least it’s £1 extra than Blockbuster’s scheme where you put your games in a trade-in bag).
