I sense a disturbance in the force, the sound of a million voices crying out, only to lament that Disney have signed publishing rights for Star Wars video games over to EA in a multi-year deal. The news comes just a month after Disney closed to doors on long time developer/publisher LucasArts.
It’s not like EA are strangers to the dark side of the force, so you’d expect BioWare to get their hands on the property. Joining them in this endeavour will be Visceral and DICE, known for their work with Dead Space and Battlefield respectively.
EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau noted that “Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe. Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay.”
There’s going to be a lot of biting frost in this new republic, but just what do EA have in store for a galaxy far far away?
