EA Buys PopCap Games

What does this mean to PopCap games? Well you might be saying goodbye to PopCap games being released on Steam. This week, EA Games hasn’t got the best reception, stating that Battlefield 3 may not be on Steam. Now something is to be added to the flames, as they have just bought PopCap, the creators of the Peggle franchise and Plants vs Zombies.

John Riccitiello, a CEO of EA Games, said:

“EA and PopCap are a compelling combination. PopCap’s great studio talent and powerful IP add to EA’s momentum and accelerate our drive towards a $1 billion digital business. EA’s global studio and publishing network will help PopCap rapidly expand their business to more digital devices, more countries, and more channels.”

David Roberts, who is a CEO of PopCap said “We picked EA because they have recast their culture around making great digital games. By working with EA, we’ll scale our games and services to deliver more social, mobile, casual fun to an even bigger, global audience.”

Do you think this is a good move for PopCap, or do you think this could spell trouble?
